Mayfair Christmas Market

Makona inside Mayfair Mercato

Dearest Princess,

As well known, I am a major proponent of Christmas. Recently I visited the Christmas market at Mayfair’s Mercato Metripolitano. Lizaveta had shown me a tiktok promotion for free tiramisu at the market, in exchange for confessing one’s sins. I thought it intriguing and decided to go at once. Money is no issue, but I like to do interesting things. To be part of unique events.

I enjoyed the Oxford St Christmas lights on the walk there. The Mayfair Mercato is inside a refurbished 1800s church, the pulpit crowned with stained glass windows reminded me of my schoolgirl days, biting back yawns during hymnals. I haven’t been to church since I left.

The line for tiramisu stretched outside the building which was intolerable to me, so I abandoned the prospect and wandered around the market by myself. I moved like a ghost, observing mothers with babies in prams, friends raucously catching up over drinks, couples huddled over pasta. I felt a bit lonely. I purchased a Christmas card and some chasiu bao just to have something to do, and spotted a cheesecake stall. Lo! They had a tiramisu flavoured basque cheesecake. It’s nice when the world works out. I left for home in high spirits, and prepared a swift cup of tea to enjoy the cake with.

I love cheesecake. This was probably the best cheesecake I’ve ever had. It was smooth and overwhelmingly creamy, slightly tangy but mostly sweet, lightly coffee flavoured. Marvelous! I made sure to check the name of the store: “La Maritxu”, I will absolutely be visiting their nearest location. One slice was only £6.50, which was entirely worth it, I’d have paid twice that happily. My god, what a cheesecake!

I will absolutely bring a box the next time I visit The Pavilion. You’ll love it.

My song recommendation: "The Holly and the Ivy", beloved by carollers worldwide.

Love, Makona
